DistroKid Is Offering ‘Mastered for iTunes’ Certification to Unsigned Artists

Apple’s ‘Mastered for iTunes’ classification has mostly been reserved for big labels due to the expense, with very few indie or unsigned artists obtaining the certification for their iTunes downloads or AAC streams.

Bucking that trend, DistroKid is now offering unsigned/DIY musicians a way to obtain the Mastered for iTunes certification pretty easily.

Distrokid’s new MFiT converter will allow artists to ensure that their tracks conform to Apple’s audio specifications. This converter allows sound engineers to tweak the audio to make sure it sounds right after AAC codec compression. For a fee, DistroKid’s service should help smaller artists reach audiophiles who prefer higher fidelity, whether downloaded or streamed.
