Hummingbird on Music, Inspiration, and Influences

Mistah Wilson: Hummingbird! Glad to have you here with us for this exclusive interview with ThaWilsonBlock. How have you been?
Hummingbird: Hi!! Thank you for having me! I’ve been good thanks for asking! :)

Mistah Wilson: Just so our readers know who we're talking to, can you give us a quick background of yourself?
Hummingbird: Well, my name is Hummingbird aka Holly K. I started singing at the age of two, recording my own material at the age of 14 and I currently have a single out on Itunes called “It’s Me”.

Mistah Wilson: We don't mean to toot your horn, but you are a very talented singer. How long have you been singing?
Hummingbird: Thank you very much! I’ve been singing since I was two

Mistah Wilson: Would you say you're a dancer, too?
Hummingbird: Yes I would actually. I have experience in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, and a little bit of Modern.

Mistah Wilson: Are you currently on any management or are you independent?
Hummingbird: Yes I’m signed with a family owned record label. Mystylerecords.

Mistah Wilson: Who are some of your musical influences?
Hummingbird: My top five would have to be Brandy, Mariah Carey, Tamar Braxton, Beyonce, and of course the great Whitney Houston.

Mistah Wilson: Where do you get your inspiration from when writing music?
Hummingbird: Well, almost all of my songs where created from real experiences. Whenever something happens to me that had some sort of affect on me, I’ll write a song about it.

Mistah Wilson: What are you currently working on?
Hummingbird: I’m currently working on my second album.

Mistah Wilson: Who are some artists you've worked with?
Hummingbird: The only popular name you’d know is Solange Knowles, but I’ve also worked with a jazz artist by the name of Calvin Harris Jr., and a lot of underground artists.

Mistah Wilson: What places have you performed at?
Hummingbird: I performed at an event for Elle Magazine.

Mistah Wilson: What do you plan on accomplishing through your music?
Hummingbird: I want my music to make lasing impressions on my listeners. It is my hope that my music makes such an impact on my listeners that in ten years when they look back at important moments in their lives, my music is their soundtrack.

Mistah Wilson: How important is giving back to the community?
Hummingbird: I think it’s always important to give back. It’s so important to uplift the next generation so they don’t have to go

through the same things my generation went through. Otherwise there’s no growth. You always have to be thankful and show appreciation and what’s a better way to do that than to give back!

Mistah Wilson: Well, thanx a lot for coming through for this exclusive interview with us! If you have any shout outs, let's hear em!
Hummingbird: Thank you! Shout out to Mystyle Records, Neversleep Productions and the amazing people behind them, my family is everything to me!
